The University of North Dakota’s women’s hockey team, led by Amy Menke’s first career hat trick, defeated the University of Minnesota-Duluth 4-3 Friday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. Playing for the first time as the Fighting Hawks, UND came from behind twice to win. Rear liner Shannon Kaiser scored the game-winner just 61 seconds after Menke recorded her hat trick. Lara Staider, Michela Cava and Ashleigh Brykaliuk scored for the Bulldogs. The Fighting Hawks goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzier stopped 18 shots, while UMD’s Maddie Rooney kept out 20. The victory over Duluth boosted UND’s record to 6-3-2 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and 8-3-2 overall. Duluth fell to 4-9-0 in the WCHA and 2-7-0 overall. The two teams play again tonight.
