Grand Forks Red River High School’s boys hockey team took a big step toward bringing the Gambucci Cup back to North Dakota on Tuesday night as the Roughriders edged East Grand Forks Senior High 4-3 in Purpur Arena in Grand Forks. After a win Saturday against Grand Forks Central, Red River (7-0) is now 2-0 in the cup race, while the Green Wave (7-3-1) are 1-1. Central is 0-2. The Riders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Max Miller but trailed 2-1 after two periods, thanks to Green Wave goals by Trevor Selk and Braden Shea. However, three straight goals by Jack Tannahill, Kaden Landa and Tony Haley to open the third period gave Red River a lead it would not relinquish. Casey Kallock scored the final Senior High goal. Riders’ goalie Adam Van Raden stopped 17 shots, while Green Wave netminder Jared Reak had 26 saves. Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.
