The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Denver University in the third-place game of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff on Saturday in Minneapolis’s Target Center. Nick Schmaltz scored for UND, while Trevor Moore scored for DU. Cam Johnson stopped 16 shots on goal for the Fighting Hawks, and Evan Cowley had 26 saves for the Pioneers. The Fighting Hawks (30-6-4) will meet Northeastern (22-13-5) on Friday in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena. The Pioneers (23-9-6) will play Boston University (21-12-5) on Friday in the West Regional in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center.
