The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team is headed to the NCAA Midwest Region’s championship game for the sixth straight year and 11th in the past 13 years with a convincing 6-2 defeat of Northeastern University on Friday in Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena. A win tonight against the University of Michigan, a 3-2 overtime winner over the University of Notre Dame, will send the Fighting Hawks (31-6-4) to their third straight NCAA Frozen Four appearance in Tampa, Fla. Six different players ― Johnny Simonson, Tucker Poolman, Luke Johnson, Bryn Chyzyk, Brock Boeser and Drake Cagguila ― scored for UND. Nolan Stevens and Matt Benning scored for the Huskies, who finished the season with a 22-14-5 record. UND goaltender Cam Johnson stopped 24 shots, while his counterpart, Ryan Ruck, handled 30.
