The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team came up short Saturday night in Minneapolis’ Target Center, dropping a 4-3 decision to the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the championship game of National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff. Despite the loss, the Fighting Hawks (21-15-3) advance to next week’s NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey West Regional in Fargo as the No. 3 seed and will host Boston University (23-11-3), which lost to Boston College in the Hockey East semifinals Friday. The UND-BU game is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN2. Top-seeded Minnesota Duluth will meet Ohio State in the other West Region semifinal at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Brock Boeser, Tyson Jost and Trevor Olson scored goals for the Fighting Hawks against UMD. Joey Anderson, Dominic Toninato, Riley Tufte and Adam Johnson scored goals for the Bulldogs. UND goalie Cam Johnson stopped 19 shots, while UMD’s Hunter Miska had 32 saves. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
