The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team solidified its hold on the No. 1 ranking in the country with a 3-1 National Collegiate Hockey Conference win over the University of Denver on Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. Collin Adams, Matt Kierstad and Jasper Weatherby scored goals for the league-leading Fighting Hawks (23-3-3 overall, 14-2-2-2 NCHC), who recorded their ninth sweep of the season. UND won Friday night’s game 4-1. Brett Edwards scored the lone goal for the Pioneers (17-8-5 overall, 7-7-4-3 NCHC). UND goalie Peter Thome stopped 25 shots, while Denver netminder Magnus Chrona had 21 saves. The Fighting Hawks play on the road next weekend at St. Cloud State University.
