The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team couldn’t overcome an early Penn State University lead and played behind all evening as the Nittany Lions defeated the Fighting Hawks 6-4 in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game on Saturday night in Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. No. 6 North Dakota (4-3) fell behind 2-0 in the first period and never was closer than one goal the rest of the game as Penn State (6-1) claimed the victory before 14,659 fans. Clayton Phillips and Connor MacEachern each scored two goals for Penn State. Tyler Gratton and Ben Copeland also scored for PSU. Judd Caulfield, Riese Gabe, Ethan Fritsch and Jake Schmaltz scored goals for the Fighting Hawks. UND goalie Zach Driscoll stopped 17 shots, while Oskar Autio of Penn State had 28 saves. North Dakota return to play next weekend when it hosts the Denver Pioneers in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference series. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
