The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team came from behind to defeat the University of Minnesota-Duluth 2-1 in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference game Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The victory gave the Fighting Hawks (9-4-0 overall, 5-1-0 NCHC) a split in the series with the Bulldogs (8-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 NCHC), the No.-ranked team in the country. UMD won Friday night’s game 4-1. Brendan Budy scored the winning goal early in the third period to break a 1-1 tie. Blake Biondi gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 with about 5 minutes left in the first period, but Ethan Frisch tied the game for the Fighting Hawks with just 5 seconds left in the period. The teams played a scoreless second period before Bundy’s game-winning goal. UND goalie Zach Driscoll stopped 22 shots, while UMD netminder Ryan Fanti had 21 saves. No. 6 North Dakota returns to play next weekend when it hosts the University of Minnesota in a nonconference game. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
