I’ve seen a lot on social media about the Neanderthal views of the Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. I believe in his right to have and express his opinion, although I truly feel sorry for the Benedictine nuns who support the institution at which he made his remarks.
Butker’s comments indicate the nuns’ choice to follow service to Lord is less than being a spouse and mother. And that’s to say nothing of their commitment to being a place of peace and inclusion, which his remarks do not reflect. Benedictine nuns are the coolest, and his remarks defied their values.
What I find ironic is the number of people rising to his defense who quickly condemned the right of Colin Kaepernick to kneel or told other pro athletes to basically “shut up and dribble.” You can’t have it both ways.
I believe in free speech. I also believe in the right to evaluate others by what they use it to say.
