PAULA MEHMEL: Shoot The Rapids — More Than Lies

Doublethink and doublespeak are a means of indoctrination in which people are expected to simultaneously accept two conflicting beliefs as truth.

Orwell created the words in the most famous dystopian novel, “1984,” but we saw them on full display Tuesday night.

The most egregious example was the horrific use of a child with cancer as a prop while at the same time cutting research to childhood cancer, which can only occur with government support since it isn’t profitable for the pharmaceutical industry.

Another horrific example was saying you are tough on crime and demanding the death penalty for killing police officers when your first act in office was to pardon people who actively beat and tried to kill police officers defending the Capitol and protecting lawmakers and their staffs, actions that led to deaths of five police officers.

Make no mistake, these are more than lies. They are manipulative actions intended to gaslight a nation. They are seeking to get people to believe the opposite of what is happening because if they knew the truth, they would not support it.

I cannot accept that we are a nation that supports turning a blind eye to violence against the police or turns its back on children with cancer, but I believe people will accept lies that support their convictions.

Don’t be fooled. Or the dystopian world of  “1984” will become all too real.

    Dear Paula,
Great to find your continuing journey spreading the Christian message of truth and justice here! If you’re free sometime in the summer, we’d love to host you (and the boys) at our new Lake Michigan cottage!
I’d love to hear from you if you have time.
    With deepest regards.
