Joel Janatuinen, who scored only three goals last year as a freshman, recorded a hat trick Saturday night as the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 5-2 in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game in Ralph Engelstad Arena. Linemate Ludvig Hoff, a freshman, chipped in two assists as the Fighting Hawks upped their record to 3-0. Freshmen Cole Smith and Tyson Jost scored the other UND goals. Evan Tironese and Jake Wood scored for RPI. Cam Johnson had 12 saves in goal for the Fighting Hawks, while Engineers netminder Chase Perry, the son of former UND goalie Craig Perry, stopped 33 shots. UND returns to action next weekend when it hosts Bemidji State University. Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.
