If you remain undecided about who you are voting for in this election, please consider that Adolf Hitler became chancellor because of a democratic election.
The Nazi Party used hatred toward the “other” and demonization of those who were “poisoning the blood of our country” to scapegoat the marginalized and convince good people to vote for them because they believed it would help the economy. People ignored the clear fascist and authoritarian rhetoric being spewed for what they believed was short term gain.
MAGA and Project 2025 uses the same playbook, and Trump’s own chief of staff, a decorated and revered general, says that Trump wanted generals like Hitler, admired the “good things” Hitler did and that Trump “fits the general definition of a fascist.”
When voting, if you still are unsure, take these warning signs seriously. Democracy is not assured but only continues because people make their electoral choices based on the greater good and freedom and justice for all.
We have the power to stop this kind of division and hatred but only if we make our choices with our eyes wide open. The people of Germany likely would not have allowed Hitler to rise to power on 1933 if they truly understood what he said. When we have a candidate who is quoting those same things, we can’t ignore it.
We need to make informed choices, not just for ourselves but for our entire nation and the world, as we seek to be a shining city in the hill promoting democratic norms not embracing authoritarianism.
“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
