The No. 7 University of North Dakota women’s hockey team, hoping for a weekend sweep, dropped a 1-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association decision to the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Fighting Hawks dropped to 8-4-2 (6-4-2-1 WCHA) on the season, while Minnesota Duluth improved to 5-9-0 (3-7-0-0 WCHA) with the series split. The loss is only the second in the last 14 games against Minnesota-Duluth. The game’s only goal was scored by Michelle Lowenhielm about midway through the third period. The Fighting Hawks outshot Minnesota Duluth, 32-22 but could not solve Bulldogs goaltender Maddie Rooney. UND goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie finished with 21 saves, including 15 through the first two periods.
