The University of Nebraska-Omaha men’s hockey team snapped the University of North Dakota’s eight-game winning streak, the longest in the country, with a 4-3 overtime victory Friday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The loss cost the Fighting Hawks a share of first place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. Omaha junior wing Austin Ortega scored his 17th goal of the year at 2:29 of the 5-minute overtime to give the Mavericks the win. Jake Randolph, Jake Guentzel and Ian Brady also scored for Omaha, while Rhett Gardner, Brock Boeser and Troy Stecher countered for UND. The Fighting Hawks fell to 9-2 in the NCHC and 18-3-2 overall. Omaha improved to 5-5-1 in conference play and 15-5-1 overall. The two teams meet again at 7:07 tonight in The Ralph. Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.
