The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team, behind junior Leah Szabla’s 20 points, four assists and three steals, defeated Big Sky Conference leader Montana State University 77-76 in a thrilling contest Friday afternoon in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The win denied the first-place Bobcats (21-8, 14-4) an outright conference championship. The Fighting Hawks, 17-12 overall and 13-5 in the BSC, won for the 12th time in their last 13 games heading into the conference tournament. Makailah Dyer chipped in 16 points and Samantha Roscoe added 14 in the win. UND, which has a first-round bye in the tourney, will meet the winner of the No. 5 and No. 12 teams Wednesday.
